Introduction:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join the team at a secondary school in Chester. The successful candidate will work closely with students who have additional learning needs, supporting them in the classroom to help them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to students' lives and help them succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Classroom Assistance: Work collaboratively with the class teacher to implement differentiated learning activities, supporting students in their understanding of lesson content.
2. Personalized Learning Plans: Help implement and monitor personalized learning plans (PLPs) for students, ensuring that appropriate resources and accommodations are in place to support their learning needs.
3. Behavior Management: Assist in managing classroom behavior in line with school policies and promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
4. Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly assess and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents on students' achievements and challenges.
5. Collaboration: Work with other LSAs, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and teaching staff to ensure the best possible support for students across the school.
6. Inclusive Activities: Support students in participating in extra-curricular activities and school trips, ensuring all students are included and have equal opportunities.
7. Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop independence and self-confidence in their learning and social interactions.
Skills & Qualifications:
1. Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, particularly in a secondary school setting, is desirable but not essential.
2. Qualifications: GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent) are required. A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.
3. Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to relate to students, staff, and parents effectively.
4. Knowledge: A good understanding of a range of special educational needs and strategies to support students with additional needs.
5. Personal Attributes: Patience, empathy, and the ability to work flexibly in a challenging and rewarding environment. A positive attitude and a commitment to making a difference in students' lives.
