We are seeking a qualified accountant or equivalent, who will demonstrate a wide range of experience leading teams, familiarity with accounting systems and digital infrastructure and delivering a range of projects across the organisation using a collaborative working approach.
LOCATION: Bristol
Option of a four-day week with compressed hours or five days if full time.
In the 54 years since the SS Great Britain returned to Bristol, the SS Great Britain Trust has taken forward the work of the pioneering volunteers who saved the ship, transforming a rusting hulk into one of the city’s leading visitor attractions and a groundbreaking story of maritime history and conservation. Alongside the ship is the Brunel Institute, the Dockyard Museum, the Being Brunel interactive experience, plus café, gift shop, and event facilities, collectively creating a unique cultural experience.
The Trust is now looking to shape a new vision and mission for the future. This will include continuing to protect the heritage assets under its care, but also providing new platforms for widening engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, diversification and growth of its commercial portfolio, digitisation of key functions across the organisation to achieve greater efficiency and improve key management information, a new approach to marketing and communications, and greater focus on fundraising and its integration across the wider organisation.
The Trust is now seeking a Director of Finance, at what is an exciting time to be joining the team. The role will provide strategic leadership and plan the financial strategy for the Trust and be accountable for the provision of financial and performance information to enable the Leadership Management Team (LMT), Finance & Audit Committee, and Board to maintain a financially viable position for the Charity. The post-holder will also lead on the development of a new digital infrastructure strategy for the organisation and will be responsible for corporate oversight as the Company Secretary.
The Finance Director will work closely with the CEO and the Leadership Team, and oversee financial strategy and financial planning arrangements, exploring new opportunities for development and embedding the best professional financial practice.
The FD will lead on all financial aspects of SS Great Britain Trust’s business strategy, ensure the timely flow of financial information to the CEO, Board of Trustees and colleagues and ensure that financial systems and practices enable them to maintain financial integrity and ongoing financial resilience.
We are seeking:
* Proven experience at Finance Director or Deputy Director level in a comparable sized organisation.
* Extensive understanding and experience of managing cross-organisational digital systems.
* Experience of working with and advising Boards / Trustees.
* Development of long-term financial strategy and plans.
* Management of projects involving multiple stakeholders, including user engagement.
* Business case preparation and presentation.
* Responding to tenders and bids.
* Knowledge of Charity reporting would be desirable but not essential.
