ROLE SUMMARY:
Pembridge Hall is an independent girls’ preparatory school (ages 4 – 11) of 463 girls set in a tranquil residential square in Notting Hill. Pembridge prepares its pupils for many of the top day and boarding senior schools in the country and therefore works at a level significantly above National Curriculum expectations.

Pembridge Hall are now looking for a Director of Music to join them from September 2025. The Director of Music is responsible for ensuring that a high challenge and well-balanced music curriculum is taught effectively and consistently throughout the school, leading to the highest standards of learning and achievement for all pupils. They will provide leadership in the organisation and management of a subject, including pupils, staff, premises and environment. Additionally, they are expected to promote and support the ethos, aims and vision of the school and maintain its philosophy of education. The Director of Music is responsible to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and ultimately the Head.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manage, lead and develop all aspects of music within the school
* Manage members of the Music Department
* Ensure all staff in the Music Department develop their teaching in an open, supportive and professional environment
* Coordinate the team of Peripatetic Music Staff, including recruitment of new staff and organising timetables
* Lead and participate in Music events, including (but not limited to) trips, orchestras, ensembles, Breakfast Concerts, Tea Concerts and school productions
* Actively promote performance opportunities across the school
* Identify talented pupils for Music Awards and Scholarships
* Manage the budget for the Music Department
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
* Teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Experience of teaching children in the primary age range
* Experience of highly effective teaching of subject across the primary age range as shown through strong student progress
* Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children
* Confident pianist and musician (organist is desirable)
* Effective use of strategies to motivate and engage students as effective learners and to promote good student relationships
* Strong organisational and management skills
* Ability to use student assessment data to raise standards
* Knowledge of National Curriculum EYFS, Key Stages 1 and 2 is desirable
