We are seeking a passionate and experienced SeniorBiomedical Scientist (Band 7) to lead and support our Histopathology andDiagnostic Cytology laboratory. Main duties of the job
Lead and supervise a section within thelaboratory, including Digital Pathology, advanced dissection,Immunohistochemistry, or other specialist areas.
Perform and oversee all histopathology andnon-gynae cytology technical procedures to ensure high-quality standards.
Actively participate in quality managementactivities, including audits, service quality improvements, and compliance withISO 15189:2022 standards.
Provide training, mentorship, and competencyassessments for staff, ensuring adherence to company and professionalguidelines.
Assist in the implementation of new techniques,processes, and service developments.
Deputize for the Laboratory Lead and provideintra-operative technical services, MOHS at offsite locations whenrequired.

Job responsibilities
Laboratory Testing
1. To perform all Histopathology technical procedures in use in the department to a high quality standard.
2. To perform Non-Gynae cytology procedures in use in the department to a high quality standard.
3. Knowledge and experience in immunohistochemistry techniques.
4. To support the digital pathology workflow.
5. To support provision of the extended hours service to meet operational requirements as appropriate.
6. Provide intra-operative technical services MOHS at offsite locations.
7. To advise the laboratory lead or Director of Operations of any technical or operational problems as they arise and offer solutions.
Staff Supervision
8. Lead by example to supervise, mentor and motivate the staff.
9. Provide supervision, mentoring and advising of other staff as required.
10. Assist with implementation of new processes and techniques.
11. Inform Laboratory lead or Director of Operations of technical and personnel issues.
Staff Training
12. Assist in organising training and competency assessment of staff ensuring compliance with company and professional body requirements.
13. Participate in training of staff at all levels both internally and externally as required.
14. Assist in designing and implementing training schedules, programmes and sessions to meet the requirements of the Company and the IBMS.
15. Assist in training and developing Associate Practitioners and placement students to obtain the registration portfolio.
Quality Processes
16. Be involved in service quality improvements.
17. Assist with the writing and review of procedures and methods.
18. Organise testing of NEQAS materials, review of results and action any EQA failures.
19. Provide data analysis and reports to support the various company meetings as required.
Acting Up & Additional Duties
20. Undertake any other duties as assigned by laboratory lead or Director of Operations, or other senior staff members.
21. To deputise for laboratory lead as and when required.
22. Liaise with persons and clients and personnel at all levels both internal and external as required.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
23. Participate in CPD activities.
24. Remain aware of scientific or other advances relevant to own role.
25. Develop and maintain skills and knowledge appropriate to the post by undertaking training, attending meetings and conferences.
26. Understand and apply the site Safety, Environmental Policy, Safety Management System and relevant legal safety & Environmental requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
32. HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in relevant discipline
33. BSc (Hon) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent academic achievement in Histopathology
34. Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HCPC or similar guidelines.
35. Completion of specialist portfolio or equivalent
Desirable
36. Registered with the IBMS
Experience
Essential
37. Successful completion of portfolio and oral assessment of discipline specific proficiency for HCPC or equivalent body registration
38. Or HCPC ratified route.
39. Relevant post HCPC (or equivalent body) registration experience in Histopathology and Cytopathology
