We have an exciting opportunity to join the Asset Directorate as the Engineering Manager reporting directly into our Head of Capital Delivery role. This is a new function providing leadership and the development, delivery, and commissioning of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure. A visionary leader is needed to develop and implement strategies aligned with the Directorate’s mission, fostering innovation and driving emerging trends. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, to deliver key initiatives, driving a culture of excellence, innovation, and ensuring continuous improvement in complex and uncertain economic conditions. Specific tasks will be defined based on changing business needs. This role will ensure consistency in approach across the Asset and Programme Delivery lifecycle while managing the design, construction, and maintenance of water systems to meet regulatory, safety, and environmental standards. Working in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations and project management, to ensure the reliable and efficient delivery of water services. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing mentorship, professional development, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement Oversee the planning, design, and execution of engineering projects, ensuring timely, within-scope, and budget-conscious delivery Provide technical expertise and leadership, ensuring designs, specifications, and construction practices meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards Ensure all engineering activities comply with water industry regulations, environmental laws, and health and safety standards Identify and manage technical, operational, and environmental risks associated with engineering projects, developing mitigation strategies Drive innovation in water engineering by adopting new technologies and sustainable practices to enhance energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact Manage engineering budgets, optimize resource allocation, and ensure cost-effective project delivery Promote continuous review of processes, adoption of best practices, and implementation of new tools to improve efficiency and project outcomes Work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to align on project objectives, scope, and timelines Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion, aligning with Company values in the workplace Ensure compliance with legislative, health, safety, and quality standards, including ISO certifications and GDPR regulations Skills, Competencies & Qualifications Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering large engineering projects within utilities, power, or transportation sectors Expert understanding of capital delivery processes and infrastructure planning Experience of proactively managing and mitigating risk in complex engineering projects Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to navigate and resolve complex challenges effectively Proven experience of financial forecasting, budget formulation, cost control, and reporting A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, with preference for a Master's degree or professional certification such as Chartered Engineer (CEng).Proven experience in developing and implementing capital delivery programme governance and gateway processes Leading a team to meet programme/project management objectives and targets with a diverse range of stakeholders Programme/project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 or Association for Project Management (APM).Extensive knowledge of asset management systems within the engineering sectors and understanding of the latest developments in digital engineering technology We recognise people want to work in a variety of different ways, this means we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements.
