Job Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership: Oversee all engineering and maintenance functions to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement.
Stand-up: Step in as Acting Engineering Manager when required.
Health & Safety Management: Uphold and enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations, fostering a culture of safety within the engineering team.
Maintenance Strategy: Develop and implement maintenance policies and procedures that drive engineering excellence and operational reliability.
Decision-Making: Strong decision-making skills to navigate complex engineering challenges and drive the team towards successful outcomes.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and lead the team through transitions smoothly.
Budget & Compliance Management: Manage engineering budgets and OEM contracts, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
Contractor Oversight: Supervise contractors to ensure that they adhere to company and site standards working safely to deliver project requirements.
Inventory Control: Implement effective inventory management procedures to maintain stock levels, minimise downtime and drive cost savings.
Team Leadership: Lead and manage the engineering team, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.
Team Development: Facilitate ongoing professional development and training for all engineering staff, supporting their career growth via PDP.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the technical accuracy and quality of engineering work, maintaining high standards.
Continuous Improvement: Embed and sustain Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Continuous Improvement methodologies to enhance processes, increase availability and instil operational reliability.
Process Enhancement: Develop and execute strategies for ongoing process and performance improvements.
Technical Support: Provide technical support, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure equipment meets quality, safety, and cost objectives.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain, compile and manage documentation including SOPs, SSOWs, RAs, and PTWs to ensure standardisation and compliance.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to achieve production goals, utilising effective communication and problem-solving skills to fulfil customer satisfaction.
Reporting: Regularly report on engineering activities and KPI performance to senior management.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or a related field.
Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading large engineering teams in a fast-paced, highly automated environment.
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems, as well as CMMS and project management processes.
Health & Safety: Proven experience in managing health, safety, and environmental protocols.
Microsoft 365: Proficient in Microsoft 365.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of influencing and collaborating effectively across all levels.
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Experience: Previous hands-on Engineering experience is essential
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Degree in Engineering or a related field.
Industry Knowledge: Experience in automated distribution centres, particularly in the retail sector, with detailed knowledge and experience across Automated Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
Continuous Improvement: Lean Six Sigma certification or relevant experience.
Technical Skills: Experience with TPM and advanced automation and robotics systems.
Project Management: Project management processes for automated machinery delivery
H&S: NEBOSH General Certification
OEM Experience: Experience across various OEM Solutions
Machinery Safety – Awareness of Machinery safety compliance and H&S Standards.
