What's involved with this role: Interim Principal Solicitor Contracts and Major Projects Job Ref: Dudley 108038 Pay Rate: £54.42 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 9 months City: DUDLEY Role is hybrid, with regular attendance on site in Bristol necessary. As a key member of the legal team, your role will involve providing efficient legal support to the Council, its Members, and various directorates. You will manage a caseload focused on Contracts and Major Projects while inspiring and supporting colleagues in other areas of law, such as Planning and Conveyancing. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing relationships between different directorates and with partner organizations to ensure smooth collaboration and effective service delivery. Key Responsibilities: Manage the operational aspects of the Contracts and Conveyancing/Regeneration Teams, providing leadership, motivation, and direction to team members. Handle contract law matters, including drafting and reviewing funding agreements, collaboration agreements, procurement, commercial transfer agreements, state aid, and the Council’s terms and conditions. Oversee performance management for the team, following Council and Directorate policies, including annual reviews and absence management. Support the Lead for Law and Governance in implementing policies and procedures and facilitating necessary changes. Represent the Council at meetings, including agenda meetings, Chairman’s briefings, and relevant Committees and Working Groups. Provide legal advice to Directorates, Officers, and Elected Members as required. Review and comment on Committee report drafts, providing legal input and preparing reports for Committees in a clear and concise manner. Key requirements: Solicitor/Barrister Working knowledge/ability to develop other aspects of legal work Post qualification experience with particular regard to Contracts and Major Projects. Experience of managing a team of professionals with responsibility for the achievement of professional and technical standards Relevant experience as a key member in a Senior Management Team contributing to strategic development and performance management. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, staff and colleagues using verbal, written and non-verbal skills, including presentation and influencing skills. Ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams to facilitate strong performance through high quality managerial skills.
