Financial Resilience Officer
£35,235 - £41,511 per annum Full Time - 37 hours (flexible working may be considered) Fixed Term – 6 months
About the role
East Devon District Council is committed to tackling poverty and this creative role plays an integral part in aiding the production of the Council's anti-poverty strategy.
You will need to think 'outside the box' and source ways to support people who are facing hardship and living in poverty. This will include accessing discretionary funding as appropriate and working in partnership with other organisations including Citizens Advice East Devon, Department for Works and Pensions, Housing Associations, food banks and community groups in the voluntary sector.
If you are passionate about helping to address the underlying root causes of poverty and motivated to be part of building a solution that works for our resident's long term, we want to hear from you.
About you
You will have a good standard of education (GCSEs or equivalent), ideally with knowledge of Welfare Benefits, Council Tax and debt recovery legislation.
You should also have up-to-date knowledge of Housing, local and national policies, and the ability to review finances and budgets to help residents maximise income and minimise expenditure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to enable effective communication with a wide range of people, explaining complex legislation in a straightforward way and discussing sometimes difficult and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
You will need to be a team player and self-motivated to organise and manage your own workload whilst also possessing problem solving skills to enable you to find innovative and creative solutions to the issues and problems facing our residents.
