Strategic Planning Manager - Role Profile
A superb opportunity has arisen to lead the Strategic Planning team in the only local authority to have won three RTPI Silver Jubilee Cups for its pioneering positive planning work.
We are in a time of significant change and challenge, not just for the planning profession but also in the world of local government. But we thrive in such times, finding opportunities in them, and continuing to seek and deliver creative solutions to the city’s radical growth and regeneration aspirations.
Plymouth itself is a stunning city, set within a magnificent setting of Plymouth Sound and estuaries, Dartmoor, and the countryside of South East Cornwall and the South Hams. For quality-of-life opportunities, it is second to none.
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to lead the team, someone who brings advanced strategic thinking skills and has the experience and gravitas to lead both a local plan process and the city’s engagement in strategic spatial planning across a broader area.
Strategic Planning is a new team, formed out of two separate teams that previously led on a Joint Local Plan for Plymouth and Southwest Devon and on city planning issues. With the scale of change taking place, a new local plan is now needed for the city but set clearly within a context of strategic spatial plans and conversations. The postholder will lead on this agenda.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Applicants must have a degree or equivalent in town planning or similar.
2. Must be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
There is no better time to come to Plymouth than now; you will be arriving at precisely the right time to make a real difference and set the agenda for the future, building off a great strategic planning heritage that goes all the way back to Abercrombie!
Plymouth City Council is an equal opportunities employer. All applicants will be considered for employment regardless of age, care experience, disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, race, religion/belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
As part of our commitment to promoting equality, we offer guaranteed interviews to those who meet the essential criteria and are considered disabled, care experienced, or are an Armed Forces Service Leaver within the last two years.
This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service.
