Our client is looking to recruit a permanent English Tutor who can do more than just deliver training but can also engage and inspire learners who have had little or no prior education.
Based on-site at HMP Littlehey, you will deliver Functional Skills English up to level 2, working with small groups of prison-based learners to develop their skills, knowledge, and behaviours while supporting them with their long-term goals and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identifying the individual needs of learners ensuring that all learners have an individual learning plan which links to their long-term employment goals.
2. Continually reviewing the learner's progression to ensure that the training continues to meet their identified needs.
3. Preparing, delivering, and reviewing comprehensive lesson plans for all sessions that address the training needs of the group including basic literacy, numeracy, language, and other social/employability barriers to employment.
4. Actively gaining feedback from learners and other sources, reviewing and improving curriculum content accordingly.
5. Engaging and motivating both individuals and learner groups to increase retention.
6. Completing all the necessary administration e.g. registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, Awarding Body documentation as determined by external and internal requirements in line with contractual deadlines.
7. Working with colleagues/hosts to assist learners' progression towards qualifications and movement into employment.
8. Meeting contractual KPIs for success and performance.
9. Maintaining 100% site-based roles with the expectation of prisoner face-to-face contact.
Requirements:
1. Maths and English Level 2 needed for Vocational Tutors and Level 3 needed for Functional Skills Tutors.
2. Full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or equivalent (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, DTTLS) or willingness to work towards. DESIRABLE
3. Subject specialist qualification. DESIRABLE
4. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a DBS or DS check or Prison Security Clearance where applicable and provide proof of Right to Work in the UK.
If you don't currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, the company can support you through the appropriate qualifications and assessments as part of your probationary period.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
1. Confidence in using a diverse range of presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
2. The ability to manage challenging situations whilst remaining calm and in control, especially in a group situation.
3. Respect for and understanding of Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Data Protection policies with specific attention to health and safety requirements when organising off-site activities.
4. A passion to motivate and lead by example to support people to achieve qualifications.
5. Clear understanding of the OFSTED framework (EIF) with the ability to meet all standards.
