The Role of the Electrical Technician
9. You will provide an operational and maintenance service to the department encompassing all aspects of engineering limited only by the competency of the team; this will include work of and with the opposite trade, working alone, working with contract resource and working with production.
10. Report to the Team Leader Engineering on all matters regarding the maintenance and operation of all plant and equipment.
11. The team may be requested to assist across-site as required to support the business objectives. Individuals will be expected to work in all departments and gain a working knowledge of them, using the experience of the local team.
12. Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all aspects of plant and equipment on site.
13. Self organise and prioritise work requirements and manage these accordingly and as directed by the team leader, section engineer or shift manager.
14. Assist in developing maintenance practices and procedures to improve and maintain the plant and equipment.
15. Pick up work, book out spares and keep records of work carried out via CMMS and update team on issues.
16. Ensure all legalisation relating to all systems is met and records keep.
17. Advise the team leader or section engineer of any spares used or required.
18. Ensure that all team members adhere to the agreed procedures and systems of working at all times and report any changes that prevent you working to these standards. Be involved in creating RA SWP & JTD’s.
19. Complete point of work risk assessments.
20. Provide continuity of cover on site in the event of sickness & holiday.
21. Ensure all equipment is maintained to the required standard liaising with all members of the engineering department as required.
22. Manage the permitting system for the department, ensuring all isolations/immobilisations are correct and implemented prior to authorising work.
23. Reduce/eliminate all forms of waste from the department operations.
24. Deputise for Team Leader Supervise/organise multi-skilled workforce Issue permits etc
25. Undertake on the job training
26. Undertake training to learn new skills and use any training given
27. Involvement in plant improvement projects
Requirements of the Electrical Technician
28. A recognised electrical engineering apprenticeship (Preferably HNC but minimum ONC level or equivalent).
29. Electrical experience of heavy manufacturing industry
30. Sound plant engineering knowledge and experience of industrial systems such as: AC & DC circuits Hydraulic systems Pumps, drives and gearboxes Heavy machinery Water cooling systems Conveyor systems Dust extraction systems Robotics and PLCs
31. Self-starting driven individual capable of leading a small team
32. Ability to work with cross functional groups
33. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to methodically fault find any issues to root cause and front line rectification.
34. Experience of working under permit systems previously or has knowledge of how permit systems operate
