About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Food and Safety Officer to join our client's Food and Safety Team. This role is focused on food hygiene and food standards inspections rather than handling service requests or broader environmental work.
As a key member of their regulatory services, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food law and the Food Law Code of Practice, conducting inspections, and advising businesses to maintain public health and safety standards.
This is a local authority role, and candidates must have previous experience within a local authority setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct food hygiene and food standards inspections across 165 premises within the borough, aiming to complete 2-3 inspections per day.
* Ensure compliance with food law, health and safety legislation, and relevant codes of practice.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to businesses and stakeholders on food safety standards.
* Carry out investigations into notifiable infectious diseases, food-related accidents, and hygiene breaches.
* Prepare reports, issue statutory notices, and where necessary, contribute to enforcement actions.
* Maintain accurate records using local authority IT systems.
* Work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies, and enforcement partners.
What They Are Looking For
* Essential: A degree or diploma in Environmental Health or a Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection.
* Desirable: Additional qualifications such as MSc in Food Safety Hygiene and Management or NEBOSH.
* Strong knowledge of food hygiene, food standards, and health & safety legislation.
* Current competency in Food Safety as per the Food Law Code of Practice.
* Experience in local authority settings conducting food hygiene inspections.
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
* Full UK driving license and access to a car for daily site visits.

* The role requires daily on-site work across the borough.
