Job Title:Childrens, Youth & Community Worker Location: South Belfast Friendship House & South Kirk Presbyterian Council:Council for Mission in Ireland Salary: £24,253 - £27,285 (A4-A10 on AMPP Scale) Hours: 37.5 hours per week (60% in Project / 40% in congregation) Term: 3 years, Fixed-Term Contract Responsible to: Project Leader (under the oversight of the Management Panel) MAIN FUNCTION OF JOB Under the direction of the Mission Project Leader, to support and assist in the delivery of programmes in Friendship House that engage with children and young people in ways that build relationships, share the gospel effectively and connect with the local congregation. REPORTING ARRANGEMENTS The Childrens, Youth & Community Worker will report directly to the Mission Project Leader and be responsible in their work to the South Belfast Friendship House Management Panel of the Council for Mission in Ireland. Duties relating to the local congregation will be under the supervision of the Kirk Session of South Kirk Presbyterian Church. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 1) South Belfast Friendship House (60%) The post holder will report directly to the Mission Project Leader to provide support as follows: To identify and co-ordinate appropriate childrens programmes in Friendship House. To take responsibility for the preparation and delivery of specific aspects of the childrens programmes, including teaching inputs and creative activities. To welcome and communicate with children and young people using the centre. To assist in the development, planning, preparation and provision of other programmes associated with Friendship House, as required. To assist with the routine running of the unit, supporting other staff and volunteers as required. To maintain accurate and up-to-date information, records and finances. To assist in the promotion of programmes and events. To carry out all duties in line with the Health and Safety Policy and report any concerns to the Mission Project Leader. General housekeeping duties including setting out and clearing away of equipment, occasional cleaning and provision of hospitality. To implement the requirement of the Child Protection Policy and all relevant procedures of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. To maintain confidentiality of information regarding children, parents or other volunteers. To undertake appropriate training as required. To carry out other duties appropriate to the post. 2) South Kirk Presbyterian Church (40%) To support the youth and community ministry of South Kirk Presbyterian as follows: The provision of programmes and activities in line with membership needs, including the recruitment and training of volunteers involved. Active participation in the Congregation's Sunday School and Christian Education programmes provided on Sunday mornings. Other appropriate involvement in congregational life and work including youth partnership opportunities involving other organisations operating in the Sandy Row area. CRITERIA QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE Essential Criteria Possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs with at least Grade C in English Language and Maths or equivalent. Training in childrens or youth ministry. Desirable Criteria Hold a relevant qualification in childcare, youthwork or teaching assistance to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Essential Criteria At least one years experience in a role working with children or young people. Experience of dealing with the public. Experience of following procedures and working to guidelines. Experience of using Microsoft Office in an employment setting with practical experience of Spreadsheets, Database, PowerPoint and Email. Desirable Criteria Experience of teaching the bible to children or young people in a ministry setting. Experience of managing petty cash and programme budgets. Experience of using Desktop Publisher or similar package. Experience in Arts, Crafts or Music. SPECIAL APTITUDES Essential Criteria Good interpersonal skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to work harmoniously in a team, even when working under pressure. Good organisational ability. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work on own initiative. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Essential Criteria Health such as to allow for reliable attendance and work proficiency (reasonable adjustments will be made for those with a disability). Appearance must be acceptable to management within the working environment. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES Essential Criteria Willingness to commit to working within the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
