Founded in 1906 by Elsie Fogerty, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama has pioneered theatre education as an academic discipline, training globally renowned performers and change-makers in the performing arts. As a world-leading institution with 75% of their research classified as world-leading in REF 2021, Central has shaped the careers of artists like Dame Judi Dench, Zoë Wanamaker, and Riz Ahmed, while maintaining a deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and artistic innovation.
As the institution approaches a transformative period in its strategic development, they are seeking an exceptional Independent Governor to join their Governing Body and Audit Committee. The performing arts sector faces complex challenges in a post-Brexit and post-pandemic landscape, requiring robust governance and strategic vision. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting Central’s mission to inspire, educate, and train the performers and practitioners who will shape the future of theatre and performing arts.
We are looking for an audit professional with a keen eye for detail and preferably experience in higher education. While technical expertise is crucial, we are equally interested in candidates who demonstrate a genuine passion for arts education and organisational development. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic institution that believes in the transformative power of performing arts education, with the potential to influence systemic change in arts training.
The ideal candidate will bring robust internal and external audit expertise, with the ability to provide strategic oversight while supporting Central's core values of respect, equity, community, and innovation. They are particularly committed to diversity and welcome applications from female candidates, those from global majority, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities who can bring unique perspectives to their governance.
