Dochas supports many unpaid Carers through the work of 6 support workers, 2 administrators, 1 befriending co-ordinator, 1 lead counsellor, 1 group worker and a team of counsellors, volunteers, a Manager and a Board of Trustees; all the staff are part time.
Services from Dochas are available across Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands (Islay, Jura, Gigha) known locally as the MAKI area. The population is 19,911 representing around 23% of the total population of Argyll & Bute; the Dochas is regularly in contact with around 270 carers.
Our values
* Confidential – we provide a safe space for carers to talk about their caring role. We provide privacy, honesty and supportive relationships
* Compassionate – we care, we listen, we are kind, we provide understanding through some staff’s lived experience
* Non- judgemental – we view each carer as an individual and are person centred in what we do
* Courageous – we advocate for carers with the difficulties they face and will support them in the battles ahead. We build carer confidence
* Respectful – We do this through listening, being there, reducing isolation, bringing people together. We respond to peoples’ needs quickly and flexibly. We are reliable
