An attractive opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Pathway based at Halton Child Development Centre. You will be part of the multidisciplinary team completing assessments to inform possible diagnosis of Autism/Social Communication disorders and related neurodevelopmental conditions.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To assess and diagnose within the highly specialist clinical area of the neurodevelopment pathway.
2. To develop and implement highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment and evaluate outcomes.
3. To produce detailed reports reflecting specialist knowledge regarding patients' needs and summarising proposed treatment plans.
4. To contribute to legal documents such as Education, Health and Care Plans, annual reviews, and individual education plans.
5. To provide specialist advice to patients, carers, and other professionals regarding the management and care of patients with communication difficulties.
6. To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.

Job Responsibilities
1. To monitor clinical effectiveness and drive innovation in line with best practice.
2. To assess and diagnose within the highly specialist clinical area of neurodevelopmental services.
3. To develop and implement highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment and evaluate outcomes.
4. To contribute to legal documents such as Education, Health and Care Plans, annual reviews, and individual education plans.
5. To provide specialist advice to patients, carers, and other professionals regarding the management and care of patients during the assessment process.
6. To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
7. To contribute to multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary teams to ensure a patient-focused approach to treatment and represent at health and Local Authority panels where required.
8. To communicate complex information from specialist assessment and treatment to patients, carers, and other professionals.
9. To work closely with patients, carers, and other professionals to negotiate and agree patient management.
10. To demonstrate empathy with patients, carers, and other professionals, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where significant barriers to understanding exist.
11. To demonstrate expert skills in motivating patients, carers, and other professionals to engage in the therapeutic process.
12. To foster productive relationships with others who have challenging communication difficulties and/or who may be under stress.
13. To provide specialist assessment and advice on optimising the patient's communication environment, including the communication skills of carers and other professionals within the patient's environment.
14. To provide specialist clinical advice, support, and second opinions for therapists and other professionals working within the highly specialist clinical area, offering case discussions, joint assessments, joint intervention, and therapy programmes as appropriate.

1. Knowledge of Code of Practice.
2. Understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit.
3. Previous experience of NHS IT systems.

Job Specific Requirements
1. The ability to travel independently across Bridgewater Trust.
2. The ability to work flexibly in accordance with service needs, including on occasions evenings.

Experience
1. Relevant experience at a postgraduate level in early language difficulties, Social Communication difficulties (ASD), speech disorders, dysfluency, selective mutism.
2. In-depth experience within preschool/clinic service area.
3. Experience of managing large caseloads, prioritisation, planning workloads.
4. Experience of monitoring service outcomes.
5. Experience of supporting/mentoring less experienced staff.
6. Experience of managing/supporting Speech and Language Therapy assistants.

Qualifications
1. Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or Equivalent.
2. Health Care Professions Council registration.
3. RCSLT Licence to Practice.
4. Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
5. Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks.
6. Evidence of additional training/continuing professional development around specialist area.
