HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER
Location: Southampton
The role:
We have an immediate requirement to appoint a Health & Safety Manager to be based at our Head Office in Southampton. Working within all sectors of The Trant Group (including Water, Energy, Defence, Gas and Nuclear), the Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for managing Health & Safety Advisors within the business and will report directly to the Head of SHEQ & Training.
As Health & Safety Manager, you will assist our operational teams and supply chain partners in ensuring safety standards are upheld. Working collaboratively with the wider SHEQ team, Quality Manager, Environment & Sustainability Manager and Learning & Development Manager, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Monitor and develop the Health & Safety culture by driving our continuous improvement strategy programme.
2. Identify ways of ensuring all personnel are aware of our strategy programme and are actively engaged.
3. Provide accurate, current HSE advice for minimising and avoiding risks associated with day-to-day work.
4. Support contracts to ensure adherence to company/client requirements, regulatory standards, and current legislation.
5. Plan, implement, monitor, and review protective and preventative safety measures, while working with all stakeholders.
6. Engage our teams in operating safely and deliver safety improvements that are lead from the front line.
7. Actively collaborate in all contracts geographical areas to assist with fulfilment of team objectives.
8. Provide assistance and guidance to operational and management teams.
9. Liaise with clients on performance and provide root cause analysis to aid relevant coaching and feedback.
10. Prioritise, investigate, and report on all accidents and incidents. Define root causes, ensure actions are completed to prevent re-occurrence and ensure that learning points are fed into SHEQ directorate for continued improvement of policy, standards etc.
11. Assist in the production of operational documentation such as RAMS and CPP. Consider how risks could be reduced and advising on a range of key activities such as confined spaces, work at height, occupational health, COSHH etc.
12. Undertake inspections/audits of operational sites. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and that contract processes are being properly implemented.
13. Provide effective analysis to aid relevant feedback and coaching.
14. Support programmes and undertake other SHEQ duties as reasonably required to cover staffing needs.
15. Provide support and guidance to the health & safety advisors and other members of the SHEQ team.
16. Undertake any other duties reasonably requested to meet team and company objectives.
Skills, knowledge & qualification requirements:
* NEBOSH construction certificate / NEBOSH general certificate with construction experience (essential)
* Experience of working in a CDM environment (essential)
* Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
* Member of IOSH or IIRSM (TechIOSH as a minimum) (essential)
* Appreciation / Understanding of Health & Safety legislation (essential)
* IT literate with experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel and use of the internet (essential)
* A strong background of working within the construction and/or utilities sector (essential)
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and work with staff at all levels
* The ability and desire to identify opportunities for improvement, and influence change
* To be able to react to constantly changing workload
* An understanding of all relevant statutory, regulatory and company policies and guidelines, including a working knowledge of ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001
* Cert IOSH or Working towards (preferable)
