Senior Ornithologist / Senior Ecologist (Ornithology)

We are looking for a Senior Ornithologist with experience in renewable energy to join our growing Environment Team.
About our Senior Ornithologist / Senior Ecologist Role:
You’ll be using your ornithological knowledge to take the lead on delivering our clients’ projects and developing Locogen’s internal ornithological expertise and service offering. You will be joining our busy Environment Team made up of ecologists, hydrologists and environmental consultants. We provide ecological & environmental services and assessment for renewable developments - predominantly utility scale onshore wind and solar projects. This is a mostly desk-based role with a small amount of time on site visits.
Some of the things you might be doing:
1. Management of ornithological projects.
2. Reviewing and analysing ornithological and ecological datasets.
3. Drafting EcIAs, ornithological reports and reports to inform HRAs.
4. Liaising with clients and a variety of stakeholders across multiple projects.
5. Managing a team of sub-contractor surveyors across the breadth of the UK.
6. Health & Safety management – drafting of Risk Assessments & Methods Statements (RAMS) and implementing safe working procedures on our sites.
7. Undertaking ornithological impact assessments for onshore wind and solar developments.
Who would be a good fit:
This role would suit a Senior Ornithologist or an Ecologist with ornithology experience who is looking for the next step in their career. It is the ideal role for someone with experience, vision and drive who wants to lead on projects and help develop our service offering. If you are a good communicator who likes to take ownership and responsibility for their work then you will fit right in.
Key skills and experience we are looking for:
1. Passion for ornithological assessment, particularly in the renewable energy space.
2. Prior experience of undertaking Ornithological Impact Assessments, Collision Risk Modelling (CRM), Territory Analysis and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA).
3. Experience of producing or contributing towards Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and / or Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) chapters for UK developments.
4. In depth understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and HRA Regulations.
5. A Health & Safety (H&S) and service-driven outlook.
6. Ability to manage, review and analyse complex ornithological datasets.
7. The desire to input into large scale Habitat Management Plans (HMP) and other conservation schemes related to renewable developments.
8. A good communicator who enjoys speaking with clients, stakeholders and contractors.
Here are some beneficial but not essential skills:
1. Ecological consultancy experience in the renewables field including habitats, bats and protected species.
2. Ability to work across ornithological and ecological projects.
3. GIS skills – particularly in QGIS.
4. Membership of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or similar.
5. Schedule 1 License, or another license, in Scotland or England.
6. Tendering and proposal preparation.
