Our Client is seeking an experienced Prison Law Solicitor to join their growing team in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have a passion for prison law and be able to manage a diverse caseload, provide support to junior team members, and contribute to the overall growth of the department. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional looking to progress within a supportive and expanding practice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage a full caseload of prison law matters, including parole hearings, appeals, and sentencing issues.
2. Provide expert legal advice and representation to prisoners, ensuring the highest standard of client care.
3. Work closely with other team members to develop strategies for complex cases and ensure compliance with relevant legal regulations.
4. Supervise junior staff and support their professional development.
5. Contribute to the expansion of the prison law department, including business development, marketing, and building relationships with key stakeholders.
6. Maintain excellent communication with clients, families, and external agencies.
7. Attend prison visits, tribunals, and hearings as required.
Requirements:
1. A minimum of 1 year PQE in Prison Law, with significant experience handling complex and high-profile cases.
2. Proven ability to manage a busy caseload independently and effectively.
3. Experience in supervising or mentoring junior staff is desirable.
4. A proactive approach to business development, with an interest in expanding the department.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong focus on client care and empathy.
6. Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have use of a vehicle.
7. An understanding of the challenges and sensitivities involved in working with incarcerated clients is essential.
