About the role
We are looking for a Legal Counsel/ Senior Legal Counsel to lead on Retail matters across the wider Group, whilst providing support to key internal stakeholders. You will report directly to our Head of Legal, Retail and work closely with the Head of Legal, Vets and other members of our friendly and welcoming legal team.
As a Senior Legal Counsel, your key responsibilities will include:
1. Leading on Retail matters across the group, including general commercial contracts
2. Working closely the Retail leaders and colleagues, to ensure we maintain best practice across the organisation.
3. Supporting Retail-related forums across the Group.
4. Advising on legal matters pertaining to pricing, marketing and consumer issues.
5. Drafting, reviewing, and evaluating internal policies and legal documents when necessary.
6. Organising, updating, and delivering legal and compliance training for colleagues.
About you….what we would like you to bring to our role and business
7. A degree in law (UK qualification preferred) with 4+ years PQE in a law firm or in-house.
8. In-depth knowledge of general commercial contracts and retail agreements, including drafting and negotiating such contracts.
9. Detailed knowledge of advising on such matters.
10. Experience/knowledge of providing general commercial advice.
11. In-house experience would be desirable.
12. Good communication skills with a good command of spoken and written English.
13. Problem-solving and analytical skills., with an attention to detail and a commercially pragmatic attitude.
14. To be able to work independently and with respect for reporting procedures.
15. The ability to draft legal documents/summaries/emails in a concise and thorough manner and in plain language.
16. To respond efficiently to routine legal questions or issues.
17. The ability to identify and analyse core Retail issues.
18. Stay on top of regulatory changes and key case law.
19. A proactive ”can do” attitude.
20. Be comfortable working both collaboratively and independently within a hybrid working environment.
21. Proficiency in MS Office and a good command of IT skills.
