SEN Primary Outreach Worker - Plymouth
Location: Plymouth
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Pay: £85 - £90 per day
Contract: Long-term, with temp-to-perm opportunities at the school's discretion
Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and making a real difference in their lives? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Primary Outreach Worker to join a specialist SEN school in Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in SEN support who is looking for a long-term role with the potential for a permanent position.
As an SEN Primary Outreach Worker, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to children with a range of additional needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting primary-aged students with a variety of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
2. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
3. Creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where children feel supported and valued.
4. Adapting teaching materials and activities to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
5. Providing one-to-one and small group support to help develop academic, social, and emotional skills.
6. Using a range of communication techniques to support children with limited verbal skills, including Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices (training can be provided).
7. Supporting children with personal care and mobility needs where necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
8. Building strong relationships with students, parents, and external professionals to support each child's holistic development.
9. Transporting students when required, ensuring their safety and well-being during travel.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
1. Experience working with children with SEN in a school, care, or community setting.
2. A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
4. The ability to adapt and respond to the individual needs of each child, using a person-centred approach.
5. Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to implement de-escalation techniques effectively.
6. A proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
7. A full UK driving licence and business insurance to transport students if needed.
8. A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or a related field.
9. Training in safeguarding, Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management strategies.
