Registered Nursing Associate - Paediatric Diabetes

We are looking to recruit a motivated, hardworking Nursing Associate to join the Paediatric Diabetes team; the successful applicant should have excellent communication skills.
We expect you to perform with passion and drive, provide excellent care, and be supportive to patients, relatives, and other MDT members. You will be expected to promote an excellent standard of patient-centered care in a supported environment. You must be prepared to work well within a team and have good interpersonal skills. We are seeking people that can demonstrate the trust values. Successful candidates must possess good IT skills.
The successful applicant will be able to develop their existing knowledge and skills in supporting children, young people and families with managing diabetes. The post will involve home visits and school visits so ability to travel is essential.
The post is part-time 16 hours per week.
You must be currently registered with the NMC as a nurse associate.

Main duties of the job
This post will be part of a team who care for children with Diabetes in the community. The postholder will work closely with hospital, community and primary care services.
The key purpose of the role is to deliver high-quality targeted family support to families of children diagnosed with diabetes. The post holder's responsibilities will include supporting families with adjustment to diagnosis, providing parenting support, strengthening family relationships, advising on benefits that are available such as financial advice, support and access to other services.
The post holder will be responsible for developing a directory of local services to be used as a resource by the team and the families. They will also be responsible for delivering group interventions for parents and young people. The support will be provided in the home, community and hospital settings.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the family, diabetes team and any professional or voluntary services supporting the family and will be required to develop their knowledge about diabetes and how it is managed in children.

This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school-aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* GSCE Maths, English, Grade C or above
* Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care
* Commitment to own professional development
* Training/Qualifications in parenting skills
* Youth work certification
Skills/Abilities/Experience
* Experience at Band 5 working in acute paediatric setting.
* Have an interest in Diabetes
* Able to distinguish between professional roles as required e.g. CCN/HV/School Nurse
* A commitment to completing a recognised diabetes course
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to ensure accurate and detailed documentation is maintained at all times
* Ability to input and retrieve information from IT systems
* Ability to deal effectively with stressed, anxious parents and children (and other carers)
* Problem solving
* Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
* Ability to function within a team whilst ensuring links with the whole multidisciplinary health care team
* Ability to advise/seek advice from relevant professionals on behalf of children, parents and other staff members
* Ability to mediate to resolve issues which cause difficulties within the unit
