Job overview
This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist looking to further advance their career and develop leadership, clinical and prescribing skills within Unplanned Care at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to make a difference and ensure the best outcomes for patients accessing emergency services within the Trust. The post holder will work to ensure the continued provision and development of high quality, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to patients as well as influence senior managers and clinicians within Unplanned Care. We will provide the successful candidate with a comprehensive induction covering all aspects of Trust work, support from senior pharmacy staff and an environment to develop further.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as a specialist pharmacist for unplanned care including non-medical independent prescribing.
2. Deputise for the Team Leader and represent the team within the organisation and across the interface.
3. Work as an expert pharmacist in unplanned care, contributing to advanced decision making.
4. In conjunction with the Team Leader, manage and implement services designed to improve the pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice.
5. Identify and support the facilitation of cost improvement programmes within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and management of medicines budgets.
6. Progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.
7. Participate in clinical audit and research, risk management, and clinical guideline development.
The successful applicant will enjoy working in a busy challenging environment, be able to manage multiple priorities and deliver against tight deadlines. The ability to work autonomously and with a high level of accountability is essential. You should possess a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and have the relevant hospital pharmacy experience. Experience of working and influencing in a multi-disciplinary team and an independent prescribing qualification are essential.

Qualifications
* B. Pharm / M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent
* Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
* Registered Independent Non-medical Prescriber
* MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or Advanced Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
* RPS Core Advanced Pharmacist Credentialling
* Formal leadership and management training
Experience
* Substantial post registration experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner to include some experience managing patients in acute and emergency medicine
* Experience in supporting directorate activity. This includes drug expenditure reporting, formulary management, DTC applications
* Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication
* Experience of pharmacist co-ordinated discharge medication, patient medication history taking
* Experience of identifying and managing risk in a clinical specialty
* Experience of disciplinary matters and be able to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner.
* Experience of acting as a designated prescribing practitioner
* Experience of using clinical audit / research to improve practice
* Experience of presenting at directorate or equivalent level
Skills
* Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team both within pharmacy and at multidisciplinary level

Knowledge
* Advanced clinical and professional knowledge to include emergency and acute medicine
* Knowledge of wider therapeutics and pharmacology
* Knowledge of NHS issues, priorities, policy, procedures and guidelines and ability to implement these locally
* Demonstrable awareness of and commitment to Clinical Governance
* Demonstrable awareness of interface issues
* Familiarity with JAC computer system
* Experience of using an electronic patient record system
