Job overview
We are looking for a motivated nurse with a professional outlook to join our team in the Main Haemodialysis Unit as a Staff Nurse.
The Sussex Kidney Unit is a state-of-the-art purpose-built unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, and provides a comprehensive range of acute and chronic renal services. The department is located in Brighton and is the main hub for renal services in Sussex. You will work within a specialised area, providing high quality care to patients with acute and chronic renal failure. We are open Monday to Saturday- 06:30-22:30 and providing Haemodialysis to 222 patients per week.
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, hard-working individual with at least two years post registration experience combined with strong interpersonal and care-management skills, to join our friendly team.
Ideally, the candidate would possess renal experience and/or the renal course. Those without a renal background can take advantage of our in-house training in the form of unit competencies/ supervisory placements and the Renal Development Programme study days organised by our Renal Clinical Educator.

Providing in-centre chronic Haemodialysis 3x a week to a group of patients with end stage renal failure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
MANAGEMENT / LEADERSHIP
* Be capable and willing to do staff rota, ensuring correct staffing levels and skill mix
* Develop the role of clinical team leader
* Ensure stock levels are maintained and orders stock as required
* Be prepared to undertake link nurse responsibilities
CLINICAL
* Actively participate as an effective team member / leader, contributing to the efficient running of the Haemodialysis Unit
* Develop, promote and implement research-based practice including guidelines from relevant areas e.g. The Renal Association, The Renal National Service Framework and The National Institute for Clinical Excellence
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of individual renal patients (including Level 1 patients who may require additional support)
* Maintain a working knowledge of preparing and implementing haemodialysis
* Enable patients and their families to understand renal failure and its treatment
Person specification
Qualified Staff Nurse
* NMC registered adult nurse
* Trained nurse with substantial clinical experience
* Good communication skills
* Renal experience
* Completed an acute renal clinical pathway or equivalent
* Competent in giving IV medications
