Specialist Physiotherapist - Acute Paediatrics
Join to apply for the Specialist Physiotherapist - Acute Paediatrics role at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to join our dynamic and supportive Acute Paediatric Physiotherapy team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.
We are a dedicated team providing specialist paediatric input across in-patient and out-patient settings. Clinically the role requires use of varied skills, our service provides therapy working with children with both acute respiratory problems during hospital admission and as part of chronic condition management within out-patient clinics. Orthopaedic presentations range from infant conditions such as congenital talipes to paediatric musculoskeletal presentations and into adolescent management. Our Paediatric Wards and Neonatal Unit are located at the newly opened Midland Metropolitan Hospital with our out-patient clinics including one-to-one therapy sessions, casting clinics and group gym classes running across City and Sandwell Health Campus and Rowley Regis Hospital. Neurological and developmental presentations may also be seen within the ward setting and within the multi-disciplinary paediatric spasticity management clinic. Through clinical rotations this role also involves working within the Neonatal Unit alongside an advanced neonatal physiotherapist.
We will consider applications from those who don't meet the full essential criteria; the contract will be offered on a band 5 development basis.
Due to the nature of this specialism, we require a therapist with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, a flexible compassionate approach and knowledge and skills across a breadth of clinical areas. Some Paediatric experience is essential, but we are a supportive team and can provide specific training to enable the transfer and development of skills and capabilities into this specialty.
We have strong links with our local paediatric tertiary centre, community paediatric physiotherapy colleagues and the paediatric multidisciplinary team as well as local universities for which we provide regular student placements.
Given the complexities of paediatric care, excellent communication skills are essential to provide partnership working with patients and parents / carers and members of the wider MDT from the medical, teaching and social sectors. Equally vital is a flexible compassionate approach and knowledge and skill across a breadth of clinical areas.
Our service currently provides weekend and on-call services jointly with our adult respiratory team; depending on individual experience and competence this role may involve active participation across a 7-day service and out of hours on-call service, which could involve providing both adult and paediatric respiratory therapy.
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.
Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens this year and will provide care to our local population from first-class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH. If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continue your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.
We Have Three Strategic Objectives
* Our People – to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
* Our Patients – to be good or outstanding in everything we do
* Our Population – to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
