About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a supportive team at a well-established secondary school in Tameside. The successful candidate will have experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and will be skilled in applying behaviour management strategies using more of a holistic approach.
As an LSA, you will work closely with students who require additional support to help them manage their emotional and social needs, improve behaviour, and engage positively with their learning. Your role will include working one-on-one with students, providing group support, and collaborating with teaching staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide individualised support to students with SEMH needs, both in the classroom and outside of lessons, where necessary.
* Feedback regularly to the SENCO team, to assist in the development and delivery of personalised education plans (EHCs) and intervention strategies to support emotional regulation, social skills, and academic progress.
* Implement positive behaviour management techniques, focusing on restorative practices and supporting students to manage conflict and emotional responses.
* Work closely with teachers and senior staff to monitor student progress, and work collaboratively with any third party services.
* Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
* Support the well-being of students, promoting positive mental health through targeted interventions and proactive strategies.
* Contribute to the wider school community, attending relevant meetings and working as part of a dedicated team.
The Ideal Candidate:
* Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Teaching Assistant (TA), particularly with students with SEMH or challenging behaviour in a secondary school setting.
* A strong understanding of behaviour management techniques with a holistic approach (e.g. restorative practices, de-escalation techniques).
* Team Teach Certificate or any similar de-escalation training would be ideal but isn't a necessary requirement as training can be given.
* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff alike.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
* A patient, empathetic, and calm approach to working with young people.
* A relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (Level 2 or 3), or relevant qualifications in the field of Psychology, would be desirable.
* A clean and clear DBS on the update service, or be in a position to procure one.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures in schools.
