This role is part of a programme for current or ex miliary personnel. Why this role matters As a valued member of BT’s Networks Service division, you will be part of the Migration Control Centre which is responsible for the migration of new equipment and upgrading of the BT network. This is a critical role where you will be taking down parts of our network during nighttime hours and performing upgrades or integrating new technologies/software during time restrictive slots. Right First Time is essential as customers will be out of service and you will be accountable for reinstating the service in an improved state by adhering to strict proven processes. You’ll work on key projects for National Critical Infrastructure, providing the network which keeps the nation safe and protected. Either working in the Network Infrastructure or Service Migrations space, you will be at the forefront of our major UK Network changes. No where has this much impact or risk on our network so it’s essential you have a sound technical knowledge, understanding of network change and skilled in risk management. This is the space in which we evolve our network to deliver our future customer’s needs, exciting right? Your role in the team will support the on boarding of new Technologies, processes, validate and enhance our existing ones and contribute to resolving issues and incidents. You’ll also support our Migrations Professionals and Leadership team with any new automations and projects because we must keep moving forward and you will play a part in that. You will also be liaising with teams across BT, with our vendors/partners and Stakeholders. Please note, this role is a six- month fixed term contract based in Birmingham and involves night work. Our Hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 nights per week and one night from home. You'll have the following skills and experience Technical Skills: • Sound understanding of network hardware including installation, upgrades, and fault resolution. • Ability to consider and mitigate risk and manage change effectively. • Own and manage change activities and incidents effectively. Experience you’d be expected to have: MANDATORY Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word / Excel etc). Experience of handling change activities and incidents including Post Incident Review ownership. Complex fault resolution under time constraints. Strong Interpersonal Skills. Good understanding of processes and procedures and contribution to their success. DESIRABLE Experienced in the automation of processes to improve light touch practices and increase output. Understanding of Project Management. You'll have the following responsibilities • Working a permanent Night pattern from Monday to Thursday. • Carefully Plan, Schedule, and execute complex Network Change activities, adhering to strict time constraints and technical practices. • Sound technical Knowledge of our main vendor, NOKIA. Understanding of Data Networks, Routing, MPLS protocols and network configuration. Skilled in technical fault resolution and proficient in CITRIX applications. CLI/SSH/Putty/NFM-P • Own and manage network incidents or escalations for your project. Capturing detailed timelines and data regarding the events leading up to and during any unscheduled service outages in the form of Post Incident Review, engage with Operations team to identify root cause and implement remedial actions to ensure service restoration in a timely manner. • Ensure your network change documentation is fit for purpose and best practice is followed in accordance with Serious About Service (PL Documentation) • Undertake team lead roles to support Migration Professionals onboard new projects, become a subject matter expert on the new technology/Service as required. Playbook creation, process validation, FOA testing and proactively considering opportunities to transform and automate processes and procedures where possible. • Manage own development, upskilling & multiskilling proactively in line with unit strategy. Seeking peer and manager feedback and utilizing self-reflection to identify areas of personal development. Develop skills using Tech Pathways, Learning Home, and The Academy. • Provide training and development to your colleagues as and when required. Through Knowledge sharing, Job Shadowing, or face to face coaching. • Accountable for contributing towards automation across your projects by supporting your Migrations professionals and leadership team by knowledge sharing and process walkthrough/Storyboarding. • Construct and develop new and existing playbooks and processes whilst using initiative to ensure projects are constantly moving forward without issue or delay. • Provide clear communication and agreed regular progress reporting of your project to Migrations Professionals, Leadership team, and other key stakeholders. • Remain engaged and contribute to team discussions, Team huddles and meetings. • Knowledge of the E2E workflow journey and how our work benefits our customers.
