The Role
To support the Lloyd's General Counsel and to provide legal and regulatory advice and support to the Lloyd's senior management, to Lloyd's committees, to a range of internal departments within Lloyd's and to Lloyd's subsidiaries and overseas offices, including market oversight.
Principal Accountabilities
To be responsible to the Head of the Corporate Team as designated at any time for matters referred to below:
* With support from the Head of the Corporate Team as required, provide expert and strategic legal advice on a wide range of legal matters related to strategic initiatives and other transactional and regulatory matters, identify issues of highest risk and propose/drive solutions to address them and advise on and influence strategic decision making where appropriate.
* With support from the Head of the Corporate Team as required, provide accurate, pragmatic and timely risk-based legal advice on legal issues in relation to Lloyd's membership, finance (including capital, investment management, tax), regulatory and compliance matters (UK and international).
* With support from the Head of the Commercial Team as required, assist with drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on a wide variety of commercial agreements, including but not limited to, services agreements, consultancy contracts, engagement letters, terms and conditions, software licences, maintenance agreements, data transfer agreements, outsourcing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
* Identify, monitor and assess legal risks associated with Lloyd's operations and actively provide proactive and innovative solutions to mitigate those risks.
* Draft with precision to avoid adverse consequences and exercise good judgment in negotiation of contracts and giving advice.
* Use knowledge and pragmatism to identify when to involve other business areas.
* Be open to change and adapt positively to it, willing to challenge and seek out new opportunities.
* Effectively manage and communicate with clients/stakeholders on individual workstreams and projects, explaining and presenting complex legal or business information in an accessible way.
* Effectively plan and prioritise workloads.
* Communicate progress of ongoing matters at regular intervals to clients and to the respective Head and, as appropriate, the General Counsel.
* With agreement and support from the relevant Head, instruct and manage outside firms of solicitors and other external advisers where appropriate.

* Good understanding of the legal aspects which apply to the work of the specific Legal team(s) the role holder will support (including insurance law, trust law, contract law, competition law, agency law; banking and finance law, regulatory law and Lloyd's byelaws and requirements in the case of the Corporate Team and data protection law, IP law, company/commercial law, contract law, agency law, trust law, regulatory law and Lloyd's byelaws and requirements in the case of the Commercial Team).
Experience
* Experience of providing risk-based legal advice on a wide variety of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters.
* Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience of managing cross-directorate and multi-stakeholder matters and projects.
