Overview
The Physical Therapy Department in the Lewis School of Health Sciences at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a full-time core faculty position as an Assistant or Associate Professor (clinical-track) physical therapy instructor. This appointment is for a full-time, 11-month position, starting in June 2025. The position is not tenurable, but includes a promotion path to Associate Professor and Professor ranks.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach graduate physical therapy, mentor graduate student capstone projects, advise students, and provide service to the department, school, and university. Faculty participate in 8 hours of clinical practice per week. The teaching load for this position is distributed across trimesters.
Responsibilities
1. Teach clinical and didactic DPT courses as assigned.
2. Supervise student research projects.
3. Advise students.
4. Participate in all departmental activities and service duties, including departmental meetings, recruitment activities, and departmental outreach events.
5. Contribute to course and programmatic outcomes assessment and continuous curricular improvement.
6. Contribute as a member of the university community to institutional and professional service.
7. Research and other forms of scholarship are encouraged but not required for this position.
8. Participate in 8 hours of clinical practice per week.
Qualifications
Minimal Qualifications:
1. Possess a DPT degree and an APTA board certified clinical specialization and some clinical experience. Applicants without an APTA board certified clinical specialization but planning to do so will be considered.
2. Be eligible for New York state PT licensure. Other professional licensures/academic degrees may be eligible for a DPT core faculty position.
3. Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, motivation and enthusiasm to learn and mentor students.
4. Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and strengths.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. PT degree and an academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD) or willingness to pursue an academic doctoral degree within 1 yr. of hire as needed for CAPTE faculty requirements.
2. 3 yrs. of clinical teaching experience (CI, SCCE).
3. Strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the graduate level.
4. Experience in student advising and supervision of student research or other capstone experiences.
