Job Summary
The area sales engineer will be the first point of contact for new and existing customers and is responsible for contributing to the growth of their business at an industry-leading company in CNC machinery.
The sales engineer will understand the needs of our customer base, the company's position in the market, and the challenges it faces. Additionally, the sales engineer will create strong and lasting customer relationships and, outside of the daily sales calls and meetings, represent the company at events and exhibitions.
Detailed job description
As an area sales engineer, you will be responsible for meeting sales and growth targets whilst delivering excellent service to both new and existing customers. The role will include, but is not limited to:
1. Preparing and delivering high-quality presentations within their brand to promote our products/services to new clients.
2. Working closely with existing clients to anticipate changing needs and requirements and accurately advising on suitable options from our range of machinery. Building and maintaining excellent communication with customers through regular calls and meetings and creating regular documented customer reports.
3. Effectively negotiating and closing orders in line with agreed monthly/annual sales targets.
4. Responding to and managing customer queries on both a technical and commercial level, maintaining good relationships with clients throughout.
5. Collaborating closely with the team to achieve company-wide success. Working to an established budget through careful financial planning and record keeping.
Skills, approach and attitude
The person who takes up this role will need to have experience in selling high-value equipment in a highly pressurised environment and understand the nuances of the steel machining sector.
The successful applicant will be competent and confident in producing a range of technical documents including reports and quotations, as well as being proficient in the use of MS Office software.
The customer-facing nature of this role requires someone with an aptitude for clear communication — both verbal and written — and someone who can listen and respond in both a timely and proactive way, balancing meeting client needs and expectations with business goals.
Previous experience or knowledge of capital equipment is desirable.
