CYP Crisis Care Mental Health Practitioner
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Since 2018, there have been large-scale transformation plans for the Crisis Care Pathway for children and young people (CYP) across Greater Manchester. This role is a key element of the GM wide Crisis Care Pathway, which is child-centred, needs-led, responsive, accessible, and flexible. The post will be instrumental in the success and future developments of the pathway and will ensure that all professional and patient contact with the service is of the highest professional standard at all times.
As part of the GM wide Crisis Care Pathway, Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) is developing an excellent service that will support CYP in crisis within the Central Manchester area. Within Crisis Care, there are two teams: the Rapid Response and CAMHs Home Intensive treatment team, both offering support to CYP during times of crisis.
This is an exciting opportunity to get involved while we continue to develop this new, award-winning service and help shape the crisis support for young people and ultimately improve their lifelong well-being.
We welcome applications from anyone who feels they can develop the skills required for this post. If you are a registered nurse (of any discipline), social worker, or occupational therapist and are keen for a change, we will support you to develop within our supportive team. We can offer a bespoke introduction and training plan in Children's and Young People's Mental Health Services.
Main Duties of the Job
As a Crisis Care Mental Health Practitioner, you will work across the Rapid Response and Home Intensive treatment team. Both teams offer support to CYP during a time of crisis. You will work collaboratively with our core CAMHS and other Mental Health Services across the system as well as Acute and/or Specialist Hospitals, the Police, Education, and Social Care.
You will work directly with children and young people with mental health needs and those who care for them, conducting psycho-social and risk assessments, and identifying strategies and creative interventions to help children and young people participate in normal family and community activities, facilitating positive outcomes in relation to young people's mental health needs, ensuring that they are supported to remain in their own homes, while providing long-lasting life skills and resilience to future crisis episodes.
You will be responsible for an agreed caseload, which will be small, and due to the nature of the service, support will be provided from across the team to utilize the excellent variety of skills and expertise that each team member can offer. All clinicians will have a responsibility to provide input and support into each other's caseload.
This is an extended hours service, which will involve shifts including weekends and evenings. Current operational hours are 8 am - 10 pm, 7 days per week; this may change as the service develops. There is no current requirement to work nights.
