Albright College is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant specializing in bank and account reconciliation, with a focus on managing endowments, grants, and nonprofit financial practices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, reconciling accounts, and managing financial transactions related to both restricted and unrestricted funds. This role is critical for maintaining the financial health of the college, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the accurate reporting and management of endowment funds. The Senior Accountant will collaborate with the Controller and other members of the finance team to ensure timely and accurate reconciliation processes, especially in relation to endowments, grants, and nonprofit accounting. This role has a salary of $105,000.00.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform regular bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
* Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data, including endowment and investment accounts.
* Manage and oversee the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including cash, investments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and endowment funds.
* Ensure the proper recording and tracking of endowment contributions, earnings, and expenditures in compliance with donor restrictions and college policies.
* Monitor and reconcile restricted funds, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and endowment fund guidelines.
* Collaborate with grant managers and endowment officers to ensure accurate recording of grant revenue, restricted donations, and endowment distributions.
* Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to bank, endowment, and account reconciliation activities.
* Assist in preparing schedules and documentation for external auditors, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant reporting requirements, and endowment reporting practices.
* Ensure proper classification and financial reporting of endowment funds in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., FASB, GAAP for nonprofits).
* Assist with year-end closing processes and preparation of annual financial statements, with a focus on endowment and restricted fund activities.
* Maintain accurate records for all accounting transactions related to endowments, grants, and other restricted funds, ensuring compliance with college policies and regulatory requirements.
* Stay up-to-date with accounting regulations, best practices, and nonprofit-specific accounting standards (e.g., FASB, GAAP for nonprofits, and endowment management).
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with a focus on bank and account reconciliation, including endowments and grants.
* Experience with nonprofit accounting and a strong understanding of accounting for endowments, restricted funds, and compliance reporting, required.
* Experience in higher education, preferred.
* Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud, QuickBooks, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
* Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), nonprofit accounting standards, and endowment fund management.
* Experience with Ellucian's Colleague product is highly preferred, with the ability to integrate Colleague’s financial data into reconciliation and reporting processes.
* Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
* Prior experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting, especially with endowment accounting, is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
* CPA or similar professional certification is a plus.
* Ellucian Colleague Finance Experience.
* Experience with fund accounting or grant management software.
* Knowledge of financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations, endowments, and grantors.
* Experience with endowment fund management, including asset allocation and spending policies.
