This role has no working from home option as it requires on-site attendance.
Salary: £49,500 - £52,500 plus fantastic benefits
About Us:
Networks & Hosting (N&H) maintains the hardware and software systems used to deliver our core infrastructure services, from physical and virtual hardware, operating systems and databases to desktops and storage. You’ll have the chance to work on exciting projects including migrating our services to a software-defined network and installing hyperconverged infrastructure compute systems.
About the Role:
The Networks & Hosting team exists to provide a first-class service, taking the pain away from the user/customer by supporting physical IT systems, improving stability and availability of our core IT Infrastructure services. We ensure that IT Infrastructure is supported, maintained, and configured for the delivery of services. Actively manage capacity plus life cycle plans in line with business requirements and technology roadmaps.
Our Team:
Technical Facilities specialists support, manage, maintain and provision the data centres at TfL. Our core activities include the planning and delivery of high-quality hardware and cabling installations within all TfL Data Centres, Server and Communications rooms including room ‘fabric’ infrastructure (cabling/racking etc.). Our activities also include providing guidance and direction to both projects and support teams wishing to install, maintain, modify or remove equipment. The role takes responsibility for establishing policies and procedures and assuring changes to existing installed equipment, new equipment installations and equipment decommissioning. The Technical Facilities Team are expected to operate to the highest standards and with the flexibility expected of an infrastructure engineer which includes out of hours work and provision of 24/7 cover ensuring 30-minute response times are achieved.
Skills Required:
Essential:
1. Minimum Cnet Data Centre Technician Professional qualification or equivalent and 2 years’ experience working in a Data Centre environment.
2. Ability to undertake lone working.
3. Extensive knowledge of cabling and cabling management systems, power distribution systems, data centre operations and implementation in complex enterprise-sized environments.
4. Experienced in developing & maintaining risk assessment, mitigation and reporting.
5. Extensive experience of implementing, upgrading, migrating, maintaining and decommissioning data centre services and technical facilities in enterprise environments.
6. Experience of use with data centre management tools and service management tools.
7. ITIL: A strong understanding & knowledge of ITIL processes across an enterprise technology environment, particularly in relation to incidents, service requests, changes, problems.
8. Full driving licence with own car and able to drive to data centre locations.
9. Practical experience of lifecycle management of systems.
10. Excellent MS Office skills – Able to manipulate complex data and present to management.
11. Ability to respond to high severity incidents and evidence the creation of detailed plans to restore service.
Desirable:
1. Experience in managing other colleagues including setting & monitoring workloads.
2. ITIL v3 Foundation Level Certified or higher.
3. Experience of safe use of 3-Phase power distribution systems.
NB: There will be occasional requirements to work out of hours for planned works and other project work.
