Key responsibilities will include: To provide scientific and operational leadership of UKHSAs Biosafety and Biosecurity division, its activities, and services. Take overall scientific and operational responsibility for the division, and provision of services to stakeholders, internal and external, including the public. Set the strategic direction of Biosafety and Biosecurity within the UKHSAs strategic framework and overall science and research strategy. Ensure that income generation for Biosafety and Biosecurity is maximised as appropriate in the context of the Science and research strategy and that services are costed and priced appropriately. Work closely with the leadership of the UKHSA to ensure that commissioning of expert microbiology services is well planned and resourced Deliver reports and advice, utilising and interpreting highly complex data in order to support the delivery of UKHSA priorities. Lead work to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity in UKHSAs laboratories working to foster best practice and developing capacity. Be responsible for policy development in Biosafety and Biosecurity and the creation, implementation and review of clinical guidelines in conjunction with other consultant colleagues and clinical users. Take responsibility for the upkeep and provision of quality and information systems related to the Biosafety and Biosecurity division. Support and develop the Biosafety and Biosecurity workforce across the whole system, in line with UKHSAs remit, to support capability and capacity, including technical and professional skills to meet the challenges involved in protecting and improving the publics health. Deliver the research priorities of UKHSA with regard to laboratory microbiology. To maintain oversight and assurance of ongoing research within the division. Take overall scientific responsibility for development work of the division. Experience in the leadership/management of a science focused role, including the leadership/management of multidisciplinary services, including microbiology and/or epidemiology Experience of managing significant commercial and financial activities, including revenue, capital projects, and budgets to Experience of overseeing standards, quality and safety across laboratories, from policy development through to implementation and monitoring Proven working knowledge and experience of laboratory quality and compliance Experience of managing significant revenue and capital projects to time, cost, and quality, including writing business cases and completing business justification templates Experience of working within laboratory operating, safety and quality systems and delivering special projects. Leadership of operational services for a national organisation Evidence of managing major change successfully and positively Proven skill in people management in mobilising and motivating multi- disciplinary teams to learn, develop and deliver to high standards An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships.
