The postholder will be required to assist in the development of biotechnology-based solutions to identify routes to recycle plastics. This will involve: (i) the development of enzymes to break down plastics, (ii) applications with different plastics, (iii) optimisation of the biodegradation reactions under a range of conditions, (iv) establishing selected enzyme-based routes for upcycling, (v) optimization of the systems developed for impact with the P3EB Hub. The postholder will work in a multidisciplinary environment with members of the P3EB Mission Hub so excellent team-working and communication skills will be required. The postholder will also supervise Master’s students, as well as assisting with the management of lab safety and equipment maintenance. The post is available from 11/11/2024 for up to 24 months in the first instance. The post is a UCL Grade 7 (£43,124 - £51,610) post, per annum (including London Allowance). The successful candidate will have at least a Master’s degree in an area of Biocatalysis, Chemical Biology, or equivalent subject. Experience in several of the following areas: enzyme expression and screening, assay development and compound characterisation, and organic synthesis, together with a demonstrated commitment to research, and excellent skills in the lab are required. They will be required to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team and have effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
