Role and Responsibilities
Flannery Plant Hire is a leading provider of plant hire and specialist attachments to the construction industry across the UK and Ireland. With a comprehensive fleet of innovative machinery, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service and meeting our clients’ project requirements.
As a Senior Hire Controller, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of our plant hire fleet and the coordination of related activities. You will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hire desk and leading a team of hire controllers to deliver outstanding customer service and optimized utilisation of our plant assets.
This is a full time position based in our Wembley office Monday – Friday.
Hours of work: 08:00 – 18:00 Mon-Fri, 1 in 4 Saturday’s 08:00 – 13:00
Responsibilities:
1. Support the Hire Manager in the day-to-day operations of the hire desk, ensuring seamless coordination between customers, field teams, and suppliers.
2. Develop and implement effective strategies to optimise plant hire fleet utilisation, asset tracking, and availability.
3. Monitor and control the quality and accuracy of all hire transactions, including bookings, collections, off-hires, and invoicing.
4. Lead, mentor, and support a team of hire controllers, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
5. Enhance and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
6. Follow company guidelines on taking hires, booking machines out and using fleet management systems (Syrinx)
7. Update report matrix on all hires, deliveries, and collections
8. Liaise with Operation Managers, Site teams and Directors on customer complaints, delivery timescales and orders
9. Conduct regular reviews of customer requirements and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
10. Develop and implement efficient processes and procedures to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
11. Assess and manage risks related to plant hire activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
12. Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
13. Stay up-to-date with industry developments, new technologies, and best practices in plant hire and construction logistics.
Requirements:
14. Proven experience in a similar role within the plant hire industry, with a strong understanding of plant machinery and equipment.
15. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve targets and deliver exceptional customer service.
16. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
17. Solid knowledge of plant hire operations, including equipment selection, allocation, off-hiring, and billing procedures.
18. Exceptional organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements.
19. Proficiency in using hire management systems, MS Office, Syrinx, Power BI and other relevant software applications.
20. A proactive and results-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and drive continuous process enhancements.
21. A thorough understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance within the plant hire industry.
22. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
23. Relevant qualifications or certifications in plant hire or construction logistics would be advantageous.
