We are delighted to have the opportunity to appoint a new Consultant Radiologist / Nuclear Medicine Physician.
The Nuclear Medicine service at Royal Free London provides a wide range of general nuclear medicine imaging, hybrid imaging with SPECT-CT & PET-CT and a large radionuclide therapy service, supporting the array of specialist services provided by the Trust.
The Royal Free site has 2 SPECT-CTs, a SPECT and 2 PET-CT cameras, one of which is a Total Body PET-CT (first in the UK). Barnet Hospital has a SPECT-CT camera. PET-CT imaging is performed with 18 F-FDG, 68 Ga-PSMA, 68 Ga-DOTATATE, 18 F-Choline and 18 F-florbetapen.
The post holder will work with the existing nuclear medicine team and is expected to be fully trained in diagnostic nuclear medicine and PET-CT reporting. Radiologists qualified to report PET-CT without the full range of Nuclear Medicine experience will be considered. Candidates wishing to work part time will be considered.
The post includes working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the services in line with performance KPIs and clinical outcome metrics. The post holder will provide professional clinical advice to other members of the nuclear medicine department, referring clinicians and hospital management and will attend relevant departmental meetings to ensure safe and effective services. The job requires the post holder to be able to work under pressure and to be flexible and adaptive to the needs of the patient and the service.
Main duties of the job
Expertise in reporting PET-CT is essential and SPECT-CT strongly desirable.
* Competently interpret and report PET-CT studies independently.
* Competently interpret and report general nuclear medicine and SPECT-CT studies independently.
* Be able to effectively represent patients and present scans at MDTs.
* As per IR(ME)R 2017 the successful candidate should be eligible to obtain their own practitioner ARSAC licence.
* The post-holder will be expected to take part in appropriate accreditation activities including External Quality Assurance Schemes and also participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. The Trust will ensure that time and support are available to allow every consultant to comply with the Royal College of Radiologists/ Physicians annual requirements for CPD.
* Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
* Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
* Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
* Participate in clinical audit.
* Participate in service development and policy review.
* Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
* Share in the assessment and introduction of new techniques and in planning staff and equipment requirements.
* Contribute to research.
Working for our organisation
The post will be initially based at the Royal Free Hampstead site, supporting and developing the nuclear medicine service to ensure a high quality of care for the patients across the Royal Free Group Hospitals. However, the successful candidate may be expected to contribute to cross-site working between The Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals if the need arises. A merger with North Middlesex University Hospitals is planned.
Sessions working from home are also an option.

Person specification
Education & professional Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* On the specialist register of the General Medical Council (GMC) for radiology or nuclear medicine; or Registered with the GMC and within 6 months (at the scheduled time of the advisory appointments committee) of being accepted for the specialist register
* Fellowship of Royal College of Radiology (FRCR) or Fellowship / Membership of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP or MRCP) or equivalent and a Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine (or equivalent)
* At least one year of subspecialty (nuclear medicine or PET-CT) training
Skills and aptitudes
* Member of Medical Defence organisation
Experience / Knowledge
* Evidence of knowledge of basic science of nuclear medicine
* Excellent knowledge and clinical skills in nuclear medicine and/or PET-CT
* Experience in NM hybrid imaging: PET-CT
* A record of regularly presenting cases and discussing imaging at multidisciplinary meetings
* Good teaching skills and ability to supervise the clinical work of doctors in training and other staff
* Evidence of research in the field
* Strong oral and written communications skills in English
* Ability to work well within a diverse multidisciplinary team
* Demonstrable knowledge of the environment in which the service needs to be delivered
* Excellent knowledge of general nuclear medicine
* Experience in NM hybrid imaging: Complex NM studies
* Experience in reporting DEXA
* Experience of developing or leading a service
* Confident in performing and reporting nuclear cardiology studies
* Ability to report diagnostic CT and MRI
