Middle School Physical Education Teacher
Position Purpose
Saco Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and student-centered Physical Education (PE) Teacher to join our middle school faculty. The successful candidate will inspire students to develop lifelong fitness habits, understand health and wellness concepts, and build teamwork and sportsmanship skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Essential Functions
* Plan, develop, and implement engaging PE lessons that align with state and national standards.
* Promote physical fitness and motor skill development for students in grades 6 - 8.
* Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment where all students can participate and succeed.
* Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
* Collaborate with other educators, school counselors, and parents to support the overall well-being of students.
* Maintain and care for PE equipment and facilities.
* Stay current with best practices in physical education and participate in professional development opportunities.
* Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
* Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Work Schedule
Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Unit Contract.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of current PE instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
* Knowledge of PE curriculum and concepts.
* Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
* Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
* Ability to organize and coordinate work.
* Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
* Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License:
* Valid Maine State Teacher Certification with appropriate endorsement.
Education
* Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
* Masters Degree preferred.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus.
