Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people? Do you have experience in education welfare and safeguarding? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join West Berkshire Council as a CME/FAP Officer within our Education Services Service.
As a CME/FAP Officer, you will report to the Senior Education Welfare Officer and play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of children missing education (CME) and children who are at risk of becoming missing (FAP). You will work closely with schools, families, and other relevant agencies to identify and address any issues that may hinder a child's access to education. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Conducting investigations and assessments to determine the educational status of children
2. Developing and implementing intervention plans to support children's educational engagement
3. Providing advice and guidance to schools, parents, and carers on matters related to attendance and welfare
4. Collaborating with external partners to promote the welfare and safeguarding of children
To excel in this role, you should have:
5. A thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Education Act 1996 and Children Act 1989
6. Experience in education welfare, with knowledge of attendance monitoring and intervention strategies
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
8. Excellent organisational and time management abilities, enabling you to manage a varied caseload

16. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 29 days per annum (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service.
