College of Science & Engineering- School of Engineering
Full-time: 35 hours per week
Fixed-term: up to 24 months
The Opportunity:
The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Drug Delivery Nanochemistry. This Research Associate position will contribute to the project entitled “Synthesis and characterisation of tracer protein-functionalised nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery” within the Institute for Materials and Processes at the University of Edinburgh.
This Research Associate position will contribute to this interdisciplinary project within the Institute for Materials and Processes at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with medical researchers.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to conduct nanomaterials synthesis, characterisation, and cell assay development for drug delivery targeted to the central nervous system (CNS). In a significant departure from current drug nanocarriers being developed for CNS, this research utilises neural tracing proteins to transport drug molecules within the CNS and bypass the blood-brain barrier.
This role is UE07 and is available on a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term basis, for up to 24 months. Please note the planned start date for this role and project is 15th February 2025.
The salary for this post is £40,247 - £47,874 per annum.
Your skills and attributes for success:
-A PhD degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Pharmaceutical Science
-Strong track record in nanochemistry especially in bioconjugation chemistry involving proteins
-Knowledge and experience in nanomaterials synthesis, characterisation, and biological validation
-Knowledge in protein structure, function, and chemistry
Good teamwork and communication skills
