Teaching horticulture to people of all ages and abilities, from young people beginning their careers in horticulture to older individuals changing careers and retired people wanting to learn more about their gardens. Classes also include secondary school students (some with learning difficulties or behavioral problems) and people with disabilities. A passion for plants and teaching is essential.
Practical horticultural experience is helpful, as is the desire to keep learning. Patience is also an important quality.
After a 15-year career in the fire service, I transitioned to horticulture, having always loved gardening and growing things. I studied for an HNC in horticulture and gained practical experience, including three years as a nursery manager.
