Role Profile – IT Infrastructure Project Manager
Key accountabilities and decision making:
Management of enterprise scale IT infrastructure projects and programmes, ensuring seamless delivery and transition of services into operational use through application of effective controls, work and resource planning and management.
• Management of high profile and technically complex IT infrastructure projects and programmes ensuring adherence with industry best practice and methodology.
• Development and maintenance of detailed project plans covering all aspects of infrastructure delivery.
• Production of periodic management reports detailing progress, milestones, cost to date and to completion
• Management of the change control procedure ensuring revisions are agreed by project sponsors and stakeholders.
• Production and maintenance of work and resource plans which predict and track utilisation and forecast skillset shortages.
• Transition of IT services into operational use and, to target operating model, through application of effective controls, project management and overall work and resource planning and management.
• Ensuring efficient and cost effective delivery through the establishment of policies and procedures that support IT strategy, operational and business change requirements and mitigate risk to the availability, security and compliance of IT services.
• Coordination of resources to ensure that testing, user acceptance and configuration management are aligned in all release and deployment activities.
• Management of communications with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective handover of services.
Skills:
• Must be accredited in one of the industry standard project methodologies - PRINCE2, Agile, etc
• Must be ITIL v3 accredited to at least Foundation Level.
• Must have comprehensive understanding of the IT infrastructure programme/project lifecycle.
• Must have comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of technologies and services e.g. data centre and network transformations, servers, storage, virtualisation, application delivery and transformation, desktop technologies and roll-outs, unified communications, establishment of new sites, etc.
• Must have comprehensive knowledge of IT governance and quality assurance.
• Must have knowledge of business processes.
• Must have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people understand
• Must have strong interpersonal and leadership skills - collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills
• Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and plan and organise personal workload to ensure priorities and deadlines are met
Qualifications:
• Must have 5 years+ broad experience derived from managing multiple significant infrastructure projects and programmes and be able to demonstrate management of teams taking projects from idea through to implementation and acceptance into service in an enterprise environment.
• Must have demonstrable experience of managing providers in an outsourced environment in a project management capacity.
• Must have experience of managing business change and transformation challenges.
• Ideally educated to degree level
Key activities
* Manage all IT infrastructure projects and programmes using standard project management methodologies and ensure they are delivered in line with business.
* Driving outsourced providers to design, deliver and manage services in line with architectural standards and contractual obligations
* Produce and maintain detailed plans covering transition of IT services from concept to target operating model
* Produce periodic management reports detailing progress, milestones, cost to date and to completion
* Influence senior stakeholders and business partners, presenting and recommending options and choices and demonstrating how projects and programmes could be aligned and implemented
* Identify and secure resource to achieve project and programme aims
* Work with the “Operate” teams to ensure business requirements are maintained through transition and into “in life” service
* Produce and publish periodic management reports on progress, milestones, cost to date and to completion
* Oversee project and programme activities, engaging with stakeholders, resolving issues, documenting risks and issues and developing contingency plans
* Chair reviews with internal and external stakeholders to track project progress and escalate major issues
* Manage communications with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective handover of services
* Detailed plans in place for all projects and programmes
* Risks and issues fully documented and communicated
* Projects and programmes delivered on time and budget due to proactive escalation and resolution of issues
* Management reports issued weekly/monthly
* Seamless transition and handover of services into operation
* Improved communication with internal and external stakeholders
Work and Resource Planning
* Produce and maintain work and resource plans
* Forecast specific skillset shortages and adjust overall plans to mitigate wherever possible
* Coordinate resources to ensure that testing, user acceptance and configuration management are aligned in all release and deployment activities.
* Work and resource plans provide better forecasting with the ability to identify and resolve skillset shortages ahead of requirement
* Optimised use of resource with reduced instances of underutilisation or over commitment
Business Engagement
* Work with stakeholders to identify forthcoming project requirements and any interrelationships with current or in progress projects
* Consolidate requirements into the overall plan
* Greater alignment of projects to business vision
* Provide the organisation increased ability to cope with business change
