Job summary Breast Cancer Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Band 8a Site: West Middlesex University Hospital, Isleworth Road The Royal Marsden Partners (RMP) are providing funding to develop and pilot alternative and more sustainable service models that ensure timely diagnosis for cancer patients, release capacity for those who need to be seen in a one-stop clinic, and reduce anxiety for those unnecessarily on a suspected cancer pathway. Chelsea & Westminster NHS foundation trust Healthcare NHS Trust has received funding to develop and pilot a model whereby referrals are triaged onto either an urgent suspected cancer or a non-urgent pathway, according to an approved protocol. Patients triaged as urgent will continue to be seen within two weeks in a one-stop clinic. Patients triaged as non-urgent will either be seen in a new breast pain clinic or, where appropriate, will be reassured and discharged with appropriate advice. The ANP/ACP is accountable for independent clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan of patients with undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions as well as, referring patients to relevant specialties for any necessary inpatient or outpatient investigations as well as facilitating safe patient discharge. The role will include developing and supporting audit and research projects and participating in up-dating and implementing departmental policies, protocols and guidelines, in line with national guidance and contemporary evidence. Main duties of the job The Adv Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Adv Clinical Practitioner (ACP) will use specialist knowledge and skills to provide healthcare autonomously to patients in their area. The ANP/ACP is accountable for independent clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan of patients with undiagnosed & undifferentiated conditions. In addition to this the ACP is also responsible for appropriately referring patients to relevant specialties for any necessary inpatient or outpatient investigations as well as facilitating safe patient discharge. The post holder will be a registered nurse or registered healthcare professional and hold an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent. They will be an independent Non-Medical Prescriber registered with the NMC (or equivalent professional body). They will practice at an advanced level demonstrating in depth knowledge and competence in all aspects of Breast Cancer, encompassing advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking and clinical management skills that are evidence based and deliver high quality patient centred care. The post holder will have a Trust-wide responsibility to promote clinical excellence in the care of patients presenting to their area by providing clinical advice and support to nursing staff and other health care professionals. They will provide expert professional and independent clinical care.
