Role Purpose The purpose of the role is to provide, leadership, guidance and support to the payroll function and to ensure accurate and punctual payment of salaries in accordance with Company and legislative agreements such as PAYE, SSP, CSP & SMP. Responsible for reviewing and improving current payroll systems and working practises to ensure the function is meeting business requirements and providing an effective and efficient service. Payroll Team Leader Salary: From £49,047 - £53,999 This opportunity, based at our Prestwick site offers: - 37 hour working week (half day Friday) - Shift premiums up to 33%, where applicable - Overtime at time and a half, where applicable - 33 days holiday per year, rising with service - Annual Bonus related to company performance - Defined contribution pension scheme (default contributions; 4% employee and 8% employer) - Virtual GP Service 365 days per year - Employee Assistance Program - A wide range of flexible benefits - Death in service payment (default 4 times basic salary) - Professional development and growth - Free car parking - And more (https://spiritaero.icims.com/icims2/servlet/icims2?moduleAppInert&actiondownload&id187171&hashed1809974432) Responsibilities - Overall responsibility for ensuring that the monthly payroll is processed accurately, with precision in accordance with legislative requirements and company payroll deadlines. - Ensure the company is compliant with all year-end filings in line with statutory deadlines, e.g. Form 42, PSA etc. Preparing and distributing reports such as P11Ds, P60s, as required. - Develop, motivate and lead the team, ensuring service levels are met whilst maintaining strong relationships and collaborative team working between Payroll function and Core HR. - Responsible in conjunction with Finance management in monthly approval of payroll to allow accurate disbursements to employees and third party providers as required in line with payroll calendar. - Act as the key point of contact for any escalated payroll queries, internally within Spirit or with third party payroll provider. - Develop and maintain a partnership approach with employees, Prestwick Leadership Team and Trade Union as appropriate to promote the function and ensure thorough understanding of payroll working practices and systems. Develop all appropriate employee communications and liaise with appropriate stakeholders to cascade. - Act as Subject Matter Expert, to provide professional advice, guidance and recommendations for any payroll issues, and responsible for evaluating and shaping payroll function, existing payroll systems and working practices to ensure service levels meet business requirements. - Manage team performance as required. - Stay informed about current tax laws and business operations to ensure payroll operations are continually compliant with all appropriate legislative requirements. - Regularly perform internal payroll audits to identify any gaps in process and deploy appropriate remedies to resolve and enhance. - Work with payroll team to develop and maintain a Payroll Operating Manual and ensure team are appropriately trained as an enabler to provide consistent payroll process coverage. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Degree or relevant vocational or professional qualification. - Previous experience of leading a payroll team in a fast-paced high volume environment. - A technically strong payroll professional who can lead by example and impart their in-depth payroll knowledge to the team. - Excellent current, technical payroll knowledge. - Ability to mentor and develop a team. - Excellent systems and numerical skills. - Ability to liaise with stakeholders and manage expectations. - Oral, written and presentational skills to effectively communicate at all levels within and outside the company. - Good project and risk management skills. - Intermediate IT skills. - Analytical and problem solving capability. - Strong customer focus and relationship management skills. - Coaching and motivational skills. - Ability to negotiate and influence. - Ability to conciliate and manage conflict. - Good commercial awareness.
