Blackpool has fully invested in the national Born Into Care research, reviewing the high numbers of children who are sadly born into our care in Blackpool, and the partnership learning from this, and what we can do differently to support families residing together where possible. Part of this learning has been to establish a specialist 0-infant team within Blackpool Family Safeguarding, who complete all pre-birth assessments for single children (not part of a sibling group), and co-ordinate the recommended plan of support until permanence is achieved for the child. This enables the implementation of intensive support at the earliest opportunity, specialist knowledge and training, to provide our children and families with the best possible start to their parenting journey. The team works alongside our health colleagues, For Baby’s Sake service, Early Parenthood service, Community Hubs, and Parent and Infant Relationship Service (PAIRS), again to provide a fully co-ordinated response to the family’s needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Blackpool’s implementation of the learning from Born Into Care, and we are starting to see a real difference in the outcomes for our children and families, which is really rewarding to see!
