Job Summary:
• The Head of Mental Health is responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving the Council’s mental health services.
• This role involves overseeing a wide range of adult social care functions, managing a significant workforce and budget, and working in partnership with health, public, and voluntary sectors to deliver effective mental health outcomes for the residents.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Provide strategic leadership for all adult mental health social care services including enablement, assessment, support planning, safeguarding, and hospital discharge.
• Lead and manage social care teams, offering professional guidance and driving service quality.
• Oversee partnerships with BEHMHT, CCG, Public Health, and voluntary sector partners.
• Champion the social model of disability across mental health systems.
• Lead safeguarding responsibilities, including the effective operation of MCA and DoLS.
• Drive service innovation, personalisation, and progression-focused practices to promote independence.
• Manage the implementation of service improvements and major change programmes.
• Monitor performance and apply quality assurance frameworks across the service.
• Lead financial planning and ensure effective budgetary control to achieve required savings.
• Represent the Council as lead professional for mental health services in strategic forums.
• Provide leadership cover for the Director of Adult Social Care when needed.
Skills/Experience:
• Proven track record in senior management within complex organisations.
• Demonstrated success in service development, delivery, and financial planning.
• Extensive knowledge of mental health and adult social care legislation and statutory frameworks.
• Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder relationship-building skills.
• Experience managing large teams and leading performance improvement initiatives.
• Skilled in safeguarding, risk management, and delivering high-quality, customer-focused outcomes.
• You will be expected to work collaboratively across departments and agencies to meet service goals.
• The role includes chairing key panels such as the AMHP warranting panel and may involve high-level decision-making within the Council's governance structures.
• This is a key leadership post within Adult Social Care and plays a vital role in promoting safe, effective, and innovative mental health services.
