Commercial Manager
UPP, the leading infrastructure and services partner to UK universities, is looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to primarily support our North and Central areas, which include Loughborough, Nottingham, Lancaster, Hull, Leeds, and York universities, as well as other regions when required.
UPP is the UK’s leading provider of on-campus residential and academic accommodation infrastructure, operating over 35,000 rooms in partnership with 16 world-leading universities across the UK. UPP has forged a powerful reputation for driving innovative, student-led approaches to campus accommodation, working closely with their university partners to offer bespoke, end-to-end expertise and support for the lettings process, ensuring maximum occupancy and revenue each year.
Working closely with the Senior Commercial Manager, the Commercial Manager will provide key commercial and contractual support while collaborating with operational sites to drive improvements in performance standards and ensure contract compliance. They will become the subject matter expert on post-contract issues, offering commercial awareness training to UPP and its partners, and supporting the team in managing risks and maintaining ISO9001 accreditation.
The role involves executing UPP's commercial strategy to preserve and grow business value. You will build expertise in UPP contracts, foster strong relationships with university partners, and manage service and legislative changes. Key responsibilities include conducting financial reviews, delivering benchmarking processes, and recommending performance improvements, while ensuring adherence to service level agreements.
You will also oversee the commercial workstream in mobilisation projects, focusing on risk mitigation and action follow-through. A key part of the role will be upskilling teams and fostering a strong commercial culture within operations.
We are seeking a Commercial Manager with experience in commercial contract management, particularly in complex contracts like PFI/PPP, and a background in facilities management or a similar sector. Strong presentation, reporting, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to drive performance improvements and cost savings. The role requires effective collaboration, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and to drive change across various stakeholders.
