Reference: b64f2f02 PURPOSE OF ROLE: Gentleman is a 60 years old male who is living with debilitating illnesses MS which affects all of his mobility. He can no longer move at all, so requires assistance with all activities. Gentleman uses a special bed and has hoists if he needs to get around in his power wheelchair. He has a WAV to take him paces during the week He has numerous long-term health conditions and can sometimes be very fatigued or in pain so you would need to be aware of this The gentleman already has a brilliant, friendlyteam of full time carers in place during the week along with his son and another PA who cover evenings and nights. He likes to get out and about, but mostly during the week with his care team. If he was to have an event during the weekend you would be supported by other carers. This would be arranged in advance. He prefers to rest at the weekend so your role would be to make sure he has the care he requires whilst in bed in his living room. We are looking for a PA, who would like to be part of this team working with them closely and covering the weekend daytime hours, plus holidays and extra cover when the need arises. Despite the gentleman's health condition, he has a great sense of humour, is intelligent and very engaging. He would like someone with with a good sense of humour and a positive outlook on life, And someone who also understands that his health fluctuates throughout the course of the day. He is very easy to get on with and very easy going. Ideal candidates would have a good understanding (or a willingness to learn) about chronic illnesses. Be willing to be trained in all aspects of his personal care. Flexible as will have on some occasions extra hours during the week and evenings if they need to be covered Someone who can think logically, has common sense and will raise issues with family or care team as they arise Car driver with own transport preferred. Previous experience is preferred but not a requirement as we will arrange training for all duties DUTIES TO INCLUDE: ·Personal Care – Giving medication and food through peg. Emptying and cleaning catheter and Stoma bags.. Basic personal care washing, combing hair, applying moisturiser, keeping mouth clean and fresh. Working with District nurses’s if they require assistance during visit.. Keeping a detailed log of medication given, taking blood pressure readings and oxygen levels detailing what care you have provided and what tasks you have completed · General household tasks such as laundry, mopping, hoovering, changing beds, ironing and other standard household tasks. ·Support with helping with his beautiful elderly dog, feeding, letting out for toilet, cleaning up ·Assistance and company socialising and getting out and about if the need arises. ·Plus any other reasonable requests. SUPERVISION: You will be directly accountable to by the gentleman himself, his ex partner who has power of Attorney and oversees his care package and his son who he lives with He/She must always respect his independence, and respect the privacy and requests of his son who lives with him and carries out care during the night, Son is extremely knowledgeable and experienced about his father condition and will be there to guide you if gentleman is going through a difficult time or his condition changes. You will be a valuable addition to the team and will be made to feel you are helping this gentleman to have a good quality of life A full induction and training will be given. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and must hold a clean and valid UK driving license. Due to the nature of the role, strict confidentiality is required.
