Gardener Required
This is a practical hands-on role, supporting the Head Gardener in all aspects of the garden’s maintenance and presentation to the highest horticultural standards and practices.
The Estate is a private family home, as such discretion and respect of the owner’s privacy must be maintained at all times.
The garden and woodland are 4 acres and are set within a 60-acre parkland.
The extensive garden and parkland have been designed by a multi-award winning Garden Designer. This includes mixed herbaceous borders, established hedges and topiary, Gravel Garden full of Mediterranean and exotic planting, Woodland Walk with Spring bulbs and seasonal interest. Further planting and work on the existing scheme are ongoing, with the aim of developing the Gardens to the highest standard of horticultural management and presentation.
The Estate is well equipped with Machinery and facilities, with well maintained Workshop, tools shed, Mess room, Glasshouses and Compost area.
The Gardener will report to the Head Gardener and be involved in all aspects of the garden and estate's maintenance and ongoing improvement.
A suitable applicant will be able to show:
1. Support positive communication and appropriate engagement with the Head Gardener, the owners, and the property manager.
2. Practical experience and/or Entry Level Qualification in gardens and/or landscape management at RHS Level 2 or perhaps a Traineeship in horticultural practices.
3. Comprehensive plant knowledge, a keen interest in gardens and landscapes, familiarity with most gardening practices including mowing, hedge cutting, strimming, pruning, and working in herbaceous borders.
4. A willingness to work alongside other members of staff, but also comfortable working alone.
5. Well-motivated with an eye for detail and a desire to achieve a high standard, ability to work on own initiative.
6. Good written and verbal communication skills, good organisational skills, a good understanding of Health and Safety issues, and a valid driving licence.
7. Training or qualifications in chainsaw operation, PA1 & 6 spray handling, and tractor operation are desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
This full-time position is 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, with statutory pension and holiday entitlement being 20 days plus Bank Holidays.
