Teacher Job Duties:
In the normal performance of duties, the teacher will:
• Develop lesson plans which meet established school and EFL models
• Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs, comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and to update relevant information and include new developments in education
• Create a weekly plan outlining lesson content to be displayed in their classroom no later than the beginning of the second day of the course
• Monitor students' levels and provide feedback to management when class moves need to be implemented
• Carry out and record end of week and end of course assessment for all groups
• Take the register accurately and report student absences immediately
• Fill out the record of work for each lesson, providing sources where appropriate
• Plan all lessons well in advance of class starting
• Not leave the classroom for any reason barring an emergency from the moment the lesson begins to the time it is due to end
• Always have a paperless / technology-free lesson pre-prepared in the event that printing amenities break down or electrical devices cannot be employed
• Manage the diverse levels of students’ abilities and needs
• Adapt curriculum to meet student needs while maintaining overall class progress
• Possess and continually develop working knowledge of current EFL methodology and teaching practices
• Assess and record student development, while identifying problem areas which need attention and improvement
• Provide a safe, positive learning environment for students
• Communicate with any and all other staff members who engage with students
• Communicate with group leaders as per school guidelines on a regular basis, including presenting student progress reports and informing them of requisite student discipline
• Maintain order and discipline among students while promoting safety and compliance with school rules and guidelines
• Attend occasional continuing education seminars and training sessions
• Attend and take part in school meetings on curriculum, organisation, and guidelines
• Be responsible for researching and planning lessons and integrating them into an intensive activity programme to places of cultural and historical interest in London and, when necessary, accompany their class on these excursions
• Attend and leads group excursions and activities (e.g. visits to museums) to groups of foreign students from 10 to 18 years-old on a year-round basis, including supervising travel on public transport (e.g. London Underground) in line with standard safeguarding rules and procedures
• Provide contextual background to, and maximise student interest in, each excursion
• Provide students with relevant project-work activities to be carried out in each location
• Follow up on each excursion in a meaningful and memorable way in class
• Interact with the students' own group leaders in a cordial and professional manner
• Review the accuracy of risk assessments provided for each activity, adding pertinent points that have been overlooked, and implementing all stated measures on excursions
• Be available for two weekend full-day excursions per month. These will generally be outside London, eg: Oxford, Cambridge, Windsor
• Be flexible with respect to availability to work at any of our three centres (Kentish Town, Camden, North Camden)
Teacher Skills and Qualifications:
Education Degree, English Language Teaching Qualification, Previous UK Teaching Experience, Class Management Skills, Curriculum Building, Lesson Planning, Extensive Knowledge of Relevant Teaching Subject Area, Language Awareness, Adaptable Teaching Practices, Creative Problem-Solving Skills, Patience, Empathy, Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills, Developed Organisational Skills, Prioritisation, Deadline Adherence, Relationship Building
